Continuation of Practical Lectures for Electrical Engineering Students at Energy Research Center Using PVsyst Software

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the practical skills of engineering students, Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center continues to deliver hands-on training sessions for students of the Electrical Engineering Department within its specialized laboratories. The latest lecture focused on training students to use PVsyst, one of the most widely recognized software tools for the design and simulation of solar energy systems. The session included a practical explanation of the software installation process, an introduction to its main interface, and step-by-step guidance on designing solar power systems Students were also trained on how to input site-specific data, select system components such as solar panels and inverters, and analyze simulation results to evaluate system performance and efficiency. In addition, the practical session covered how to generate professional technical reports using PVsyst, helping students develop essential skills in preparing engineering studies and project documentation related to solar energy systems. This activity is part of the center’s commitment to equipping students with modern practical skills, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, and preparing them for the growing renewable energy sector.

4th Sustainability Week Launches at Al-Mustaqbal University

Under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and supervised by the President of AL_Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, the 4th International Al-Mustaqbal Sustainability Week 2026 is set to launch as one of the leading scientific events in the field of sustainable development. The event will take place from April 12 to April 15, 2026, at the university campus in Babylon, Iraq, starting daily at 9:00 AM, with wide participation from academics, researchers, and experts from both local and international communities. The week aims to promote awareness of sustainability concepts and highlight the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while providing a platform for sharing expertise and showcasing innovative research and projects that contribute to a greener and more sustainable future. The program featured a comprehensive training approach that combined both practical and theoretical aspects. The practical sessions were conducted from Sunday to Thursday under the supervision of Mr. Ali Nael and the staff of Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center, where participants gained hands-on experience in installing and implementing solar energy systems. In addition, the theoretical part of the course was delivered over two days by Mr. Mustafa Fahem, who provided detailed explanations covering key topics such as system connections, batteries, and inverters, along with essential technical concepts in the field. This training program offered an integrated learning experience aimed at equipping participants with the necessary skills to work in the renewable energy sector, in line with modern developments and labor market demands. Experimental Operation of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Project for Mechanical Engineering Students As part of the activities of the Renewable Energy Research Center at Al-Mustaqbal University, an experimental operation of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) project was conducted by students of the Department of Mechanical Power Engineering – Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Branch. The activity was carried out under the supervision of the Director of the Renewable Energy Research Center, Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed, in the presence of the center’s technical staff. The project aims to convert wind energy into electrical energy through a practical prototype of a vertical axis wind turbine. The system was developed to provide students with hands-on experience in renewable energy technologies and to demonstrate the practical application of engineering concepts related to clean energy generation. During the experimental operation, the students presented the working principle of the system and the main components of the wind turbine, explaining how the kinetic energy of wind is transformed into electrical power. They also demonstrated the monitoring and measurement system used to record voltage and current generated by the turbine. A technical and scientific discussion of the project was conducted by Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed along with the research center staff, where several engineering recommendations and technical observations were provided to improve the design and enhance the electrical generation efficiency of the prototype. This activity reflects the Renewable Energy Research Center’s commitment to supporting student projects and promoting sustainable energy awareness, while encouraging innovation and scientific research in the field of renewable energy.

Continuation of Practical Experiments at Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center Laboratory

As part of strengthening the practical and applied skills of students at Al-Mustaqbal University – College of Engineering Technologies, practical laboratory experiments for students of the Department of Electrical Engineering Technologies continue to be conducted at the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center Laboratory within the course Solar PV Systems 1 (Lab), under the supervision of Lecturer Esraa Mohammed Hassan. The experiment involved the practical application of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, where students studied the effect of series and parallel connections of solar panels on the electrical characteristics of a solar PV system. Students performed practical measurements of open-circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current (Isc) using a Solar Panel Multimeter, followed by implementing different panel connection configurations and analyzing the obtained results. In addition, students plotted the relationships between the number of panels and voltage in the case of series connection, and between the number of panels and current in the case of parallel connection. They also carried out the necessary calculations and compared the experimental results with theoretical values while analyzing the percentage error. These laboratory activities reflect the continuous efforts of the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center to support applied education and enhance students’ practical skills in photovoltaic (PV) solar energy systems, contributing to preparing qualified engineering graduates capable of keeping pace with developments in the field of renewable energy.

Electrical Engineering Students Conduct Practical Experiment on Installing MC4 Connectors for Solar Energy Systems

As part of the ongoing practical experiments at the Future Energy Research Center laboratories at Al-Mustaqbal University, students from the Department of Electrical Engineering conducted a laboratory experiment today on the installation mechanism of MC4 connectors used in solar energy systems. The experiment included introducing students to the main components of MC4 connectors and the tools required for the installation process. Students were also guided through the practical steps of stripping solar cables and performing the crimping process, followed by correctly fixing the connectors to ensure a safe and reliable electrical connection within the solar system. During the experiment, the importance of MC4 connectors in photovoltaic systems was highlighted, particularly their role in improving system efficiency and reducing energy losses. Students were also introduced to the most common installation mistakes and the proper methods to avoid them.
