To align academic research with practical applications, Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center hosted fourth-year students from the Department of Fuel and Energy Engineering Techniques (College of Engineering Technology) to review and discuss their graduation research proposals, under the supervision of the Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Ammar Abd Al-Kadhim Fathi. This initiative reflects the continuous scientific integration between the university’s academic departments and the research center, providing students direct access to advanced laboratory facilities and technical expertise in renewable energy and smart systems. The discussions evaluated the scientific scope and practical feasibility of the proposed projects, offering academic guidance to ensure research outcomes address real-world sustainability challenges and industry needs. President of Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in the UNIMED General Assembly in Barcelona, Discussing Erasmus+ Programs and Academic Mobility

Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the General Assembly of the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED General Assembly 2026), hosted by the University of Barcelona in Spain on October 7–8, 2026. The event coincided with the 35th anniversary of UNIMED's foundation and witnessed broad participation from presidents and representatives of universities and academic institutions across the Mediterranean basin and Europe. The assembly endorsed the core strategic priority areas for the union’s action plan, focusing on advancing higher education and scientific research through six key domains: 1. Governance of Higher Education: Enhancing management frameworks and good governance in academic institutions. 2. Digital Education: Supporting digital transformation and modern learning environments. 3. Intercultural Dialogue: Fostering cultural understanding and collaboration across the Mediterranean region. 4. Employability: Developing students' skill sets to meet modern labor market demands. 5. Higher Education in Emergencies and Fragility: Ensuring educational continuity and learning opportunities during crises. 6. Sustainable Development: Activating the role of universities in achieving SDGs and environmental protection. The assembly also featured special sessions reviewing proposals for the Erasmus+ (2028–2034) program, unified student and staff mobility actions, international capacity building, master’s scholarships, and Jean Monnet Actions. Notably, Al-Mustaqbal University stands as the only private university in Iraq to secure the prestigious European Union–accredited Jean Monnet Grant, highlighting its academic excellence and active presence in global educational initiatives. Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi emphasized the university’s dedication to engaging in international partnerships and implementing top global academic practices, reinforcing its position in international forums and supporting national strategies for educational and research advancement.

Integrating Theory and Practice ALMustaqbal Energy Research Center Conducts Solar Radiation Measurement Field Experiment for Engineering Students

To strengthen practical learning and hands-on laboratory experiences, Al-Mustaqbal Renewable Energy Research Center at Al-Mustaqbal University conducted a specialized field experiment on solar radiation measurement using the Air Mass and shade technique. The practical session targeted third-year students from the Department of Power Mechanics Engineering Techniques (Renewable Energy Branch), College of Engineering Technology, under the academic supervision of faculty researcher Lecturer Israa Mohammad Hassan. The experiment focused on introducing students to the core components of solar irradiance on Earth's surface—direct, diffuse, and global radiation—and analyzing hourly solar intensity variations based on zenith angles and atmospheric air mass concepts. During the session, students utilized a reference height column to track shadow length variations over sequential time intervals, calculated theoretical solar irradiance, and benchmarked their calculations against real-time readings measured by the center's specialized solar radiation meters, followed by error margin analysis and environmental factors discussion. Under the patronage of the respected President of Al-Mustaqbal University and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering Technologies, the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center organized an online workshop entitled “Water and Sustainable Development”, supervised by the Director of the Center, Dr. Salwan Ubaid Waheed. The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of water resources and their vital role in achieving sustainable development, as well as to discuss current challenges facing the water sector, particularly in Iraq, and ways to address them through efficient water use and conservation practices. The workshop featured lectures by: • Ms. Esraa Mohammed Hassan • Ms. Asmaa Mohammed Hameed They delivered insightful presentations covering several topics, including the importance of water conservation, causes of water waste, practical methods for preserving water in daily life, and the role of women in managing water resources and promoting environmental awareness. The workshop also addressed modern water-saving technologies such as drip irrigation and water reuse systems. Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center held an online workshop entitled: “Integration of Solar Energy Systems with Smart Homes and Buildings Using the Global KNX System.” The workshop was presented by Eng. Ahmed Al-Hariri, Managing Director of Elite Engineering Company for Smart Home Systems, Solar Energy Systems, and Software Solutions. The workshop introduced solar energy systems and smart building technologies, as well as the mechanism of integrating these systems using the global KNX system. It also highlighted the key features and types of smart systems, the differences between smart systems and smart products, and discussed opportunities for professional development in this field. In addition, the workshop reviewed the available training courses in Iraq that keep pace with the evolving demands of the labor market. The workshop witnessed the participation of a number of students and individuals interested in renewable energy and smart systems. Several questions and scientific discussions were raised during the session, which enriched the topic and enhanced participants’ knowledge.
