Al-Mustaqbal University Concludes Erasmus+ Workshop Organized by the EU Delegation in Iraq with Participation from Universities across the Middle Euphrates region

Al-Mustaqbal University concluded a specialized training workshop on Erasmus+ programs and grants, organized by the European Union Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The workshop brought together representatives of public and private universities across the Middle Euphrates region and was attended by Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University. The third and final day featured specialized training and dialogue sessions addressing Erasmus Mundus opportunities for students and academics, key application requirements, university partnerships, and the preparation of joint Master’s program proposals, supporting international academic cooperation and the development of joint educational programs. Sessions also highlighted universities’ role in promoting Erasmus+ opportunities and supporting students in preparing applications. Participants discussed key challenges facing Iraqi universities in engaging with these programs and explored practical steps to address them and strengthen institutional readiness to develop and submit competitive projects and proposals. During the workshop, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi stressed the importance of moving beyond awareness of Erasmus+ toward transforming available opportunities into practical international partnerships and implementable projects, while using the training outcomes to strengthen Iraqi universities’ capacities and enhance their engagement in European academic and research cooperation programs. Held over three days, the workshop covered Erasmus+ opportunities, institutional capacity building, competitive international project development, International Credit Mobility (ICM), student exchange, administrative and financial aspects of European projects, and Jean Monnet grant applications. Hosting the workshop reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to internationalizing higher education, strengthening global academic partnerships, and enabling students and academics to benefit from EU programs, while encouraging universities across the Middle Euphrates region to develop high-quality projects that advance education, research, and international cooperation.

Dr. Waheed’s participation highlights the Center’s commitment to expanding international research collaboration and leveraging funding opportunities provided by the EU’s Erasmus+ program to advance sustainable energy and applied research projects. Distinguished Academic Participation by Engineering Technical College Delegation in Comprehensive EU Erasmus+ Training Workshop at Al-Mustaqbal university

As part of ongoing efforts to solidify academic internationalization and expand global research partnerships, a high-level delegation from the Engineering Technical College at Al-Mustaqbal University actively participated in the comprehensive specialized training workshop organized by the EU Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Department of International and Arab Organizations - Directorate of Scholarships and Cultural Relations). The workshop was hosted by Al-Mustaqbal University over three consecutive days (September 21–23, 2026). The college delegation included: Prof. Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed – Director of the ALmustaqbal Energy Research Center. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ammar Abd Al-Kadhim Fathi – Head of the Fuel and Energy Engineering Technology Department. Dr. Mohammed Maitham Obaid – Head of the Scientific Affairs Unit at the College. The active participation of Prof. Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed reflects the strategic vision of the Future Energy Research Center to build bridges of scientific cooperation with European universities and research institutions. During the workshop sessions, Dr. Waheed focused on exploring direct funding mechanisms and institutional support provided by the Erasmus+ program for clean energy and sustainable development projects. He emphasized translating training outcomes into competitive research and applied projects that foster innovative renewable energy solutions and enable the Center’s researchers to join international research teams and prestigious global initiatives. Detailed Workshop Overview Across Three Days: The workshop witnessed broad attendance from academic leaders and representatives of public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region, featuring intensive training modules covering academic, administrative, and financial dimensions: Day 1: Launched under the patronage and presence of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, alongside Ministry and EU representatives. Discussions centered on institutional capacity building and the importance of international programs, highlighting the university's success in securing a Jean Monnet grant as an exemplary Iraqi model. Day 2: Sessions focused on International Credit Mobility (ICM) and student and academic exchange mechanisms in accordance with Iraqi regulations. Discussions also covered administrative and financial frameworks for opening foreign currency bank accounts to manage EU-funded projects. Day 3 & Closing: Concluded with specialized modules on Joint Master’s Degrees (Erasmus Mundus), application procedures, and international partnership criteria, alongside practical solutions to address challenges facing Iraqi universities in developing competitive project proposals. This participation underscores the firm commitment of the Engineering Technical College and the Future Energy Research Center to advance academic and research outcomes, leveraging international grants and programs to reinforce academic rigor and elevate Al-Mustaqbal University's global standing.

Under the patronage of the respected President of Al-Mustaqbal University and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering Technologies, the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center organized an online workshop entitled “Water and Sustainable Development”, supervised by the Director of the Center, Dr. Salwan Ubaid Waheed. The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of water resources and their vital role in achieving sustainable development, as well as to discuss current challenges facing the water sector, particularly in Iraq, and ways to address them through efficient water use and conservation practices. The workshop featured lectures by: • Ms. Esraa Mohammed Hassan • Ms. Asmaa Mohammed Hameed They delivered insightful presentations covering several topics, including the importance of water conservation, causes of water waste, practical methods for preserving water in daily life, and the role of women in managing water resources and promoting environmental awareness. The workshop also addressed modern water-saving technologies such as drip irrigation and water reuse systems. Furthermore, the relationship between renewable energy and water resource management was discussed, emphasizing their integration to achieve environmental sustainability. Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center held an online workshop entitled: “Integration of Solar Energy Systems with Smart Homes and Buildings Using the Global KNX System.” The workshop was presented by Eng. Ahmed Al-Hariri, Managing Director of Elite Engineering Company for Smart Home Systems, Solar Energy Systems, and Software Solutions. The workshop introduced solar energy systems and smart building technologies, as well as the mechanism of integrating these systems using the global KNX system. It also highlighted the key features and types of smart systems, the differences between smart systems and smart products, and discussed opportunities for professional development in this field. In addition, the workshop reviewed the available training courses in Iraq that keep pace with the evolving demands of the labor market. The workshop witnessed the participation of a number of students and individuals interested in renewable energy and smart systems. Several questions and scientific discussions were raised during the session, which enriched the topic and enhanced participants’ knowledge. At the conclusion of the workshop, Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center expressed its appreciation to the lecturer for the valuable information presented and wished the participants continued success.

Almustaqbal Energy Research Center organized a specialized training workshop that included a lecture session on the use of PVsyst, one of the most widely used software tools for the design and analysis of photovoltaic (PV) systems. The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of using the software for designing solar energy systems and analyzing the performance of photovoltaic installations. It also covered the main factors affecting system efficiency, including solar irradiation, panel tilt angle, and climatic conditions. During the workshop, participants were guided through practical steps on how to input site data, select appropriate system components, and run simulations to obtain optimal system designs that maximize energy production.
