As part of ongoing efforts to solidify academic internationalization and expand global research partnerships, a high-level delegation from the Engineering Technical College at Al-Mustaqbal University actively participated in the comprehensive specialized training workshop organized by the EU Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Department of International and Arab Organizations - Directorate of Scholarships and Cultural Relations). The workshop was hosted by Al-Mustaqbal University over three consecutive days (September 21–23, 2026). The college delegation included: Prof. Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed – Director of the ALmustaqbal Energy Research Center. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ammar Abd Al-Kadhim Fathi – Head of the Fuel and Energy Engineering Technology Department. Dr. Mohammed Maitham Obaid – Head of the Scientific Affairs Unit at the College. The active participation of Prof. Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed reflects the strategic vision of the Future Energy Research Center to build bridges of scientific cooperation with European universities and research institutions. During the workshop sessions, Dr. Waheed focused on exploring direct funding mechanisms and institutional support provided by the Erasmus+ program for clean energy and sustainable development projects. He emphasized translating training outcomes into competitive research and applied projects that foster innovative renewable energy solutions and enable the Center’s researchers to join international research teams and prestigious global initiatives. Detailed Workshop Overview Across Three Days: The workshop witnessed broad attendance from academic leaders and representatives of public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region, featuring intensive training modules covering academic, administrative, and financial dimensions: Day 1: Launched under the patronage and presence of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, alongside Ministry and EU representatives. Discussions centered on institutional capacity building and the importance of international programs, highlighting the university's success in securing a Jean Monnet grant as an exemplary Iraqi model. Day 2: Sessions focused on International Credit Mobility (ICM) and student and academic exchange mechanisms in accordance with Iraqi regulations. Discussions also covered administrative and financial frameworks for opening foreign currency bank accounts to manage EU-funded projects. Day 3 & Closing: Concluded with specialized modules on Joint Master’s Degrees (Erasmus Mundus), application procedures, and international partnership criteria, alongside practical solutions to address challenges facing Iraqi universities in developing competitive project proposals. This participation underscores the firm commitment of the Engineering Technical College and the Future Energy Research Center to advance academic and research outcomes, leveraging international grants and programs to reinforce academic rigor and elevate Al-Mustaqbal University's global standing.
