Under the patronage of Al-Mustaqbal University President, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, the 11th International Scientific Conference on Arab Women’s Sports commenced at the university, bringing together researchers and academics from Iraqi and Arab universities to explore scientific and technological advances in women’s sports and their role in promoting health, empowerment, and sustainable development. Delivering the University Presidency’s opening address on its behalf, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadeq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, highlighted the conference as a platform for exchanging expertise, advancing sports practices, and strengthening academic and research collaboration to improve women’s physical and psychological well-being. Al-Zuhairy noted that the conference’s Scientific Committee had received 389 research papers, of which 264 were accepted. The papers addressed diverse topics, including complementary and alternative medicine, women’s sustainable health, biotechnology and digital technologies in sports, psychological and hormonal health, and sports education. The opening session featured discussions of outstanding research papers presenting innovative approaches to advancing women’s sports and improving health and training practices. Artistic performances also enriched the opening ceremony, highlighting the connection between scientific, cultural, and artistic activities. The University Presidency emphasized the importance of developing actionable recommendations to advance health and sports programmes, encourage joint research, harness modern technologies, and translate research findings into practical initiatives that serve society, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, innovation, and partnerships. Al-Mustaqbal University held a virtual meeting with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA, to explore opportunities for scientific and academic collaboration, including postgraduate programs and professional certificates, with the aim of enhancing educational quality and developing academic and professional skills. The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University; Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadeq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision; Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd, Dean of the College of Engineering Technologies; and Assistant Prof. Dr. Ali Shakir Majdi, Dean of the College of Engineering, alongside several department heads and relevant university officials. Representatives responsible for scientific and academic cooperation at VCU and Dr. Hussein Al-Sheikh from the Iraqi Cultural Attaché in Washington also attended. Al-Mustaqbal University celebrated its achievements in international rankings through a scientific event dedicated to reviewing and analyzing academic and research performance indicators, exploring ways to strengthen international relations, enhance competitiveness, and promote institutional sustainability. The event was attended by University President Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, vice presidents, deans, department and division directors, and a number of faculty members and staff. The University President affirmed that these achievements reflect strategic planning and collective institutional efforts. He commended the contributions of academic, scientific, and administrative staff, emphasizing the importance of advancing scientific research and high-quality publishing, expanding international partnerships, and leveraging performance indicators to drive continuous improvement. Specialized presentations were delivered by Vice President for Student Affairs and Educational Affairs Prof. Dr. Abbas Al-Bawi; Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadeq Al-Zuhairy; Director of the Scientific Affairs Department Prof. Dr. Tareq Jawad Kadhim; and Director of the International Rankings Unit Ali Abbas Zuwain. The presentations highlighted key achievements, including first place among Iraqi private universities in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, the University’s debut in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027, placing it in the 1201–1400 global band, and its strong results in research and subject-specific rankings. As part of the event, Ms. Ilaf Salah Mahdi, Head of the Erasmus Unit at the University Presidency, delivered an introductory workshop highlighting the role of Erasmus+ in supporting higher education, developing academic and professional skills, and expanding mobility and exchange opportunities for students, faculty members, and researchers. The workshop also explored priority areas and opportunities for scientific collaboration and the exchange of expertise and best academic practices. As part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s College of Engineering commitment to strengthening scientific and academic ties with Iraqi universities, a delegation from the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering conducted an academic visit to its counterpart at the College of Engineering, University of Karbala, on Monday, 12 October 2026. The delegation comprised Assist. Prof. Dr. Firas Thaer Raouf, Head of the Department, and Assist. Lecturer Montather Salih Mahdi, Department Rapporteur. The visit included a joint meeting attended by the heads and rapporteurs of both departments. The meeting addressed several areas of mutual academic and scientific interest, particularly academic curricula and the annexes related to the Bologna Process. Discussions included exchanging updated curriculum documents and reviewing course content to promote greater academic alignment between the two programmes, in accordance with quality assurance requirements and applicable ministerial regulations and guidelines. Both sides also discussed arrangements for organising a joint applied scientific competition in the form of a hackathon during the 2026–2027 academic year. The initiative aims to develop students’ scientific, practical, and creative capabilities, foster a spirit of competition and teamwork, and encourage the application of engineering knowledge to address specialised problems and challenges in prosthetics and orthotics engineering. Furthermore, the meeting explored opportunities to expand cooperation in graduation project assessments by involving academic staff from both departments in preliminary and joint project discussions. This initiative is intended to facilitate the exchange of academic expertise and enhance the quality of project evaluation. The two sides also agreed to coordinate joint examinations in selected specialised courses for second-, third-, and fourth-year students. At the conclusion of the visit, both parties emphasised the importance of maintaining direct communication, strengthening coordination, and following up on the implementation of the agreed initiatives.
