Towards Digital Education: A Strategic Academic Partnership Between Al-Mustaqbal University and VCU (USA).

In alignment with its vision to internationalize academic education and elevate scientific research, the University of Al-Mustaqbal held a high-level meeting with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA—a premier institution classified under the Carnegie Classification as a Doctoral University with Very High Research Activity (R1). The meeting aimed to discuss frameworks for joint academic cooperation and the launching of dual Master’s degree programs in next-generation specialties: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cybersecurity. The high-profile meeting was led by Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi (President of the University of Al-Mustaqbal) and Dr. Azim Eskandarian (Dean of the College of Engineering at VCU). Meeting Agenda & Outcomes The meeting included a comprehensive review of the scientific capabilities and advanced infrastructure of VCU's College of Engineering, highlighting its global distinction in robotics and autonomous systems. Leveraging the strong capabilities of both institutions, the two sides agreed on the broad outlines and structure of the joint Master's program. Commenting on this milestone, Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi stated: "The University of Al-Mustaqbal adopts an ambitious strategy aimed at elevating the educational and research process from a local scope to broader global horizons. This vision is manifested through a series of practical steps and strategic partnerships with elite international universities and institutions, such as VCU." He further added that the discussions focused on two primary axes: Adopting World-Class Curricula: Working toward offering postgraduate programs (Master's and Ph.D.) in specialized, modern disciplines that rely entirely on the rigorous academic curricula and systems of the partner university. Activating Research Partnerships: Emphasizing advanced fields such as robotics, intelligent systems, and cyber solutions, while promoting joint publications in reputable international journals, and facilitating academic exchange for faculty and researchers to undertake fellowships and scientific residencies abroad. It is worth noting that technical and specialized meetings will continue between the two parties to finalize the administrative procedures and draft the formal agreements, paving the way to secure the official ministerial approvals and launch the programs in the near future.

Al-Mustaqbal University Leads Iraqi Universities in the 2026 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings and Confirms Its Global Leadership

Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new academic milestone that further strengthens its leading position at both the national and international levels, after ranking first among all Iraqi public and private universities in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2026. The university secured a distinguished global position within the 201–300 category out of 1,603 universities worldwide included in this year’s ranking. The university also ranked first among the 43 Iraqi public and private universities participating in the ranking, reaffirming its national leadership and institutional excellence in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and transforming them into practical and impactful initiatives on the ground. The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, announced that the university has achieved an unprecedented academic and research milestone in the global U.S. News & World Report – Best Global Universities rankings for the 2026-2027 edition. The university clinched 3rd place among all Iraqi universities (both public and private), ranking directly after the University of Sulaimani and the University of Baghdad. With this achievement, it secures a prominent spot among the only eight Iraqi universities that successfully entered this prestigious global ranking. On the regional and subject-specific levels, the university ranked 568th in Asia, making significant leaps in specialized scientific disciplines. With hearts full of deep sorrow and grief, guided by the timeless values of sacrifice and justice, the Director of Al-Mustaqbal Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications at Al-Mustaqbal University, on behalf of himself and the entire scientific and administrative staff of the center, extends his deepest condolences and sympathies to the Master of our Time, Imam Al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his holy advent), the grand religious authorities, and the entire Islamic nation upon the arrival of the sacred month of Muharram and the solemn anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, his family, and his companions (peace be upon them) in the tragic epic of Taff.
